What Causes Sharp Pain In Left-sided Abdomen And Blood In Stool?
Sorry.. Pain is on my left side, just above belt level.
Please go in to ER.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Blood in the stool can be from multiple things, including rectal tears and hemorrhoids. But given the combination of bleeding plus pain in the upper left abdomen, this could be either a bleeding ulcer or bleeding from the colon. I think it would be wise to go in to the ER for evaluation. There you can be evaluated more quickly, and given that the bleeding is happening even without having a bowel movement, it needs evaluation now.
Usually, if the stomach is bleeding, the stools look black and tarry, because the stomach acid changes blood to this appearance. But if the bleeding is brisk enough, it will come out as bright red blood. Bleeding from the large intestines, such as from a polyp, will be bright red blood.
So do go in. I hope this information helps.
