Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.
Standing and working on your feet will put your knees and hips under severe strain.
Would you please clarify a few things for me?
1) what is your height & weight /body mass index, if you know it?
2) Do you know if you have flat feet?
3) Have you attained menopause?
4) Do you smoke?
5) Do you have arthritis or family history of the same?
Glucosamine works to improve the cushioning effect in the joints by supplementing the material required for this cushion (synovial fluid) and take a while to help. It does not help with treating any inflammation or injury that might be present..
I would :
- get a detailed medical, personal and family history
- clinically examine you throughly and look for signs of joint damage
-run blood tests (complete blood count, ESR, calcium and phosphate levels, Thyroid levels.
-x-ray you knee and hip joints. An MRI may be needed if I suspect any soft tissue injury of your knee/hip.
Based on the above results and findings I could advice you appropriately.
I recommend that you consult an orthopedic doctor at the earliest to prevent further joint damage and help you either the above mentioned tests.
In the meantime, stay off your feet as much as possible, wear shoes with good support, avoid sudden movements like turning, jumping.
Avoid driving , if that worsens your pain.
Anti inflammatory gels can help relieve pain along with ice packs to reduce inflammation.
If there is no swelling, a knee brace can help to support your knee.
Anti inflammatory medications will help, but should be taken after seeing a doctor
Please see a doctor at the earliest.
Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
