Posted on Thu, 23 Jun 2016
Question: I had pain ranging from discomfort to sharp pain in my nose and back of my neck. Diagnosed with rhinitis and took nasal steroids and decongestants. I was very dried out. The pain was greatly lessened by being outside and worst in office environments like my work and banks. Places with high ceilings were ok. Home was moderate but with constant discomfort and headache. I had no sinus pressure or congestion, no fever. it is possible this is a kind of nerve issue in my nose?

Brief Answer:
Nerves dysfunction may be a possible explanation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Pain in back of your neck may be nerve related and more precisely nerve compression by conditions such degerative spine disease.

Sinus problems that you refer seems to be related to any allergies that may cause allergic rhinitis, since there is change of symptoms in different environments.

Small nerves dysfunction that supply nasal and sinuses mucosa also may be the culprit.

These nerves may be damaged by different factors such chronic smoking, toxins, etc. and these damaged nerves may be more prone or hypersensitive to changes in environmental factors such temperature, humidity etc.

Of course, it is difficult to be sure for the exact cause of the symptoms without examining the patient, so, I suggest you to discuss with your primary care Doctor about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
