What Causes Sharp Pain In Outer Side Of Knee?

I had the same problem about 3 months ago and also about 1-1/2 months ago. I went to my family doctor both times. Since I have leiden factor V they sent me for ultrasounds both times. I'm allergic to naproxen, so I've just been taking aspirin for the discomfort. During both of these times, it lasted about 1 to 1-1/2 weeks and then seemed to go away.
I hate to go back to the family doctor since they want to rule out a blood clot but we're not solving the problem.
An orthopedic evaluation might help.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to HCM forum.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
The symptoms you mentioned (sharp pain localized to one part of the joint line, decreased range of motion and feeling of giving away) are suggestive of injury to ligaments of the knee joint (probably cruciate ligament) rather than venous thrombosis. Or, it may also indicate osteoporosis with osteophytes/loose bodies in the joint.
Can you upload or send me the report of ultrasound? After confirming the diagnosis with clinical examination and sometimes imaging we can treat the condition by bracing, physiotherappy or minor arthroscopic procedures, depending on the situation.
So, it will be fine if you can see an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.
Thank you.
