Question: Should I be worried? I had sharp shooting pain in the right side of my abdomen that lasted for about ten mins but was intense enough to wake me up and hurt even more to move, then subsided and then made me feel nauseous. What should I do?

Brief Answer:
Gallstones seem most probable reason. Ultrasound should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such pain along with nausea can be caused by gallstones, urinary tract stones or peptic ulcer.

Gallstones pain usually radiates to the back. Nausea is very characteristic for this condition. The pain is usually quite strong.

Urinary tract pain tends to radiate to the groin. Frequent urinating and burning while urinating can be present. You may find a trace of blood in urine.

Peptic ulcer pain usually appears after a meal. It is more dull than sharp.

I suggest you to have abdominal ultrasound, blood work and urine analysis at first. If nothing will be found, gastroscopy should be the next step.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
