What Causes Short Term Memory Loss When Suffering From Brain Cancer?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Feb 2015
Question: my husband has metastatic brain cancer of the thalamus originating from esophageal cancer in 2011. He has been put in hospice care at the VA Medical Center. Right now he has confusion and short term memory loss, shakes at different times, and body temp fluxuates. Because he is not having anymore MRI's or other testing, my question is will this be his new normal or what is the prognosis normally?

Brief Answer:
Considerations.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the query,

I think hospice care is very appropriate in this sort of situation. Focus on comfort and quality of life is the priority.

This will be the new normal for now and we might expect him to slowly decline over the coming weeks.

I know it is a very difficult decision to make and a difficult situation to endure but it sounds like you have made the right decision. The hospice service is generally very good at helping to manage symptoms and answer questions you might have going forward.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
