What Causes Shoulder Pain With History Of Rotator Cuff Shoulder Surgery?

default
Posted on Tue, 12 May 2015
Question: Back in 2002' I had a rotator cuff left shoulder surgery. It was very successful. Now, for the past couple of years or so, I find I have pain on top of my shoulder, a bit around and below my shoulder blade and around by bicep. I am a stomach sleeper, and at times I find myself waking up sleeping on that left shoulder. That causes me to spend the whole day with pain and for my arm to feel numb at times. I also have breasts fibroids which I don't know if they contribute to the pain also (?) But this shoulder and arm pain has been bothering me a lot. I appreciate your feedback!

Brief Answer:
It can be impingement in shoulder

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I think you might be having impingement in shoulder. This is caused by compression of cuff under the bone. As you have mentioned that you have already gone though a shoulder surgery so chances of compression is very high .
To confirm this diagnosis I would recommend you to get MRI of the shoulder. This will tell us if there is any cuff tear or compression is present.
If there is cuff tear or impingement than you might need Arthroscopy surgery to remove this.
I hope this answer will be helpful to you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
Thanks

Thank you Dr. I actually meant to say tricep instead of bicep. I get dull soft shooting pains.

Brief Answer:
MRI of the shoulder will be helpful

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Biceps or triceps or any other muscle around arm and shoulder feel painful when there is cuff problem. This is called referred pain. Other disease which can cause same symptoms is cervical spondylitis. But in that condition pain comes up to finger.
MRI of the shoulder will be helpful for us in confirming the diagnosis and further management. You can share that report with me.
Other option is that you can try steroid injection in shoulder by a expert shoulder specialist. It will give good pain relief though it is only effective for short term.
Thanks
