What Causes Sinus Tachycardia?
Good prognosis - Not to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I would like to help you.
Sorry for your mother's condition..
Can you be more specific about your question?
I understand it that that your mother had recently chest pain, during which time ECG was done and revealed inferior wall MI.
Was any other tests for enzymes like Creatine Kinase-MB and troponin I & T done?
If it is recent, these enzymes will be elevated. If old It will be reduced.
You can also confirm acute MI with transthoracic echo cardiography.
Inferior wall MI has better prognosis.
Sinus tachycardia means heart rate is increased with normal regular rhythm. Heart rate could be increased due to ongoing MI and the heart trying to compensate.
Thrombolysis is necessary in acute MI. If it is old MI, then exercise and cardiac rehabilitation is necessary.
If you give me more details regarding your mothers history, medication and the investigations, I can help you more.

In future any heart attack arises???
Heart attack can be prevented
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
As a person increases in age, the risk of heart attack always increases.
Heart attack is due to coronary artery disease, where lipid deposits in the wall of the artery (atherosclerosis) causes partial or complete block leading to death (infarction) of the tissue it supplies.
Hope the cardiac enzymes studies done today are normal.
She needs to get an angiogram done to assess the patency of the coronary vessels and any obstructions to be treated with angioplasty.
As she already had one myocardial infarction, she needs to be on anti-platelet agents regularly to reduce risk of thrombosis or clot formation inside blood vessel in future.
In diabetic individuals, myocardial infarction can present without pain. Other symptoms like increased sweating and breathlessness needs to be watched for.
Her lipid levels and sugar level needs to be under control to reduce the risk of future MI. Moderate exercise, with balanced diet and less stress life is essential for her.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
If you have no further clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer.

It is probably Old MI, confirm with Echocardiogram
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
The ECG is not being very specific and I am yet to see any other reports related to your mother. The ECG says the presence of a inferior wall MI and it is unable to say when (probably old infarct).
Sometimes the machines are wrong and you require an echocardiogram for confirmation. I have not received any report of echocardiogram or cardiac enzymes to further confirm your suspicions.
As she is admitted, whether there were any investigations done. ECG is non-committal on time and is probably indicating a old one. But correlation with present symptoms is essential.
Maybe she had an earlier mild infarct. If she is doing well now with out any chest pain, then it is probably an old MI. However try to get an Echocardiogram done and a stress test later on when she is ambulatory to rule out any coronary artery disease.
Any further queries, do ask again.
