What Causes Sleep Apnea Post Testosterone Replacement?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Apr 2015
Question: I began testosterone replacement shots in November. In December I began experiencing severe sleep apnea. My Dr. believes it is because of my tonsils and admoids and has referred me to an ENT Dr. Could the testosterone have caused or exagerated a problem with my tonsils?

Brief Answer:
possible

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Testosterone replacement for 'andropause' has been known to unmask or aggravate obstructive sleep apnea. If treatment of adenoids or tonsils can alleviate the issue, please get this done so that the replacement can go on as earlier.
On the other hand, if the ENT doctors feel there is not much of an issue with the tonsils and you have a short stout neck, you can try C-PAP for relieving sleep apnea but if it gets too bothersome, you actually might need to stop the testosterone shots and see if you are continuing to feel comfortable.
All the best.
