What Causes Sleep Disturbance While On Normoz?
Question: I'm really worried. My 15 year old was found to have a 6cm by 4cm by 4cm cyst in the ovary.
The doc prescribed her Normoz for 3 months - 2 tabs a day. She's had it for 1 month.
1.5 weeks after she started having them she found difficulty in going to sleep (has had 5 nights of no sleep in the last month). As of last week, she has begun to show signs of unnecessary fear of being alone while sleeping (says she's scared of sleeping alone).
Could this be the side effect of normoz?

Brief Answer:
Stop Normoz immediately
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concerns.
Normoz is not going to help her with cyst. Please stop it.
she can instead use oral contraceptive pills for 3 months to get rid of cyst.
There are no side effects of fear of sleeping alone or fear of any kind. This could be related to something else.
Don't worry her with cyst issue as they disappear without treatment in many cases.
Stop Normoz as of now.

HI the doc had advised Ovelon but my daughter is not at all comfortable with taking hormonal pills. We thought Normoz was for dissolving the cyst. Is our assumption incorrect?
For dissolving a cyst of that size (6X4X4) is it important to take the oral contraceptive?
How can I send my daughters reports for PCOS to you and she has terrible terrible acne problems as well?

Brief Answer:
Don't treat if cyst is not creating problem
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Hormone pills are best way. Normoz does not help really. Pills are best.
Polycystic ovaries can be identified by ultrasound scan. Birth control pills will help in reducing acne to some extent.
If she has no pain abdomen due to cyst, leave it alone. It is likely to disappear by itself.

Thank you doc. Just 2 further questions
a) Did you get to see the reports that I'd sent through email (as I wasn't able to attach them earlier)
b) is there a particular reason by you believe Normoz should be stopped immediately

Brief Answer:
Reassure her that all is well
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I saw the attached reported it looks normal for her age.
Cyst is likely to disappear as it is natural sometimes and needs no treatment.
I like you to stop Normoz because :
1) It does not give any great benefit.
2) Your daughter is sleepless and frightened. This is a new molecule and hence not to risk continuing it further.
3) Your kid should not be frightened that she has contracted some disease and being treated for it. Right now stopping medicines and reassuring her will comfort her more than any medicines.
4) Cyst is likely to go away by it self. After 3 month repeat ultrasound scan in another scan centre on second day of her cycle.
5) All she needs is your care and love tha she is fine.
