Brief Answer:
Improve your lifestyle and consult your treating Physician !!!

Detailed Answer:
Morning and welcome to HCM. Your continued trust in this health portal means a lot to me as a Physician. It is your trust that makes us able to help millions of patients on 24/7 basis.

I have reviewed your query and can well establish the health worries you have. Actually this body temperature that you have recorded isn't the exact fit for definition of Hypothermia (low body temperature). We define hypothermia as the body is losing more heat than it is producing and cut point value is 95 degrees of Fahrenheit. You had 96.1-96.5, that isn't actually hypothermia that may need immediate medical heroic measures.

Outside weather conditions, room temperature, clothing that doesn't match the outside temperature may be some of the causes for low body temperature. Low body metabolism that may be due to poor diet, low thyroid functioning and other conditions may be the cause. Actually temperature of the body is controlled in our Hypothalamus part of brain that when defective due to any reason may cause loss of control on maintaining core body temperature in normal limits.

I recommend you to keep your home air conditioning system set above 78 degrees for this short term until you feel OK. Wear warm clothes all the time even while sleeping. Take a Warm water shower daily before going to bed. Keep your room well suited for your sleep (lighting, cleanliness and other factors including bedding).

Keep a healthy and balanced diet. Add some protein diet too if you don't dislike it. Or best is to consult a Dietitian to get a diet chart for you that suits your taste buds too. You need almost 2200 calories per day as I can best suggest you based on your daily activities and health conditions. Your Dietitian will fix this chart for you to attain daily calories.

As our age advances, our body gets lesser control on the temperature regulations. So we need to take more help of outside heating systems and clothing as age advances.

If there isn't any thyroid issue, I best suggest for you to ask your Physician to go for a thorough evaluation of your heart and if needed refer you to a Cardiologist. Other important thing to be done is your Serum Sugar Levels and HbA1c levels from a lab. Some people with deranged blood glucose levels also have issues of deranged body temperature control.

Your sleep seems to be disturbed due to colder body you have. Once you get a good control on this issue, your sleep will hopefully get better too.

Brief Answer:
High level may be related to some tumor of adrenal gland (adrenal adenomas)

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back with a follow up query. I appreciate your concerns and trust in HCM. I can understand how important this health issue is.

Well, there is a disease of endocrine system name Cushing Syndrome. The cause being excess cortisol levels that may be due to adrenal gland tumors (Primary adrenal disease). We usually suspect these non-cancerous (benign) growths inside adrenal gland when we get higher cortisol levels on testing.

Cortisol is secreted due to stimulation of the adrenal gland by ACTH (A brain's product that comes to stimulate adrenal glands). If there is no increased levels of ACTH but we get a raised Cortisol it means there is some issue primarily In the adrenal gland (not the ACTH axis).

Based on the above detail you can easily understand why they are going for more sophisticated tests to see the anatomy of your Adrenals.

I appreciate and welcome any kind of future updates from your side. I am here to help you anytime. For future reference and faster answers you may visit my direct link: tinyurl.com/drhanifmd

hello,

I know how hard it is to help some one when you don't know or see them.

I am 75 years old and I became a plant based whole food diet last year. The result of that change for me is that I was able to get rid of lupus last year. I have continued on the whole food plant based diet this year. I weigh 150 lbs and i am 5' 2 " and have a very active lifestyle. I am a gardener and I hike everyday 2 miles
up and down hills. I hike every saturday with different groups and I am gaining strength as I started the 2 mile walk when I turned 70. and have been hiking the last 3 years. I kayak on every warm day that I can get away which is pretty often.
My blood pressure is nomal 125/69 and I take a multi vitamin, calcium, magnesium, dong quai, and super b complex.. I don't smoke and have never smoked and I drink wine occasionally. i am generally healthy but I do want to sleep more as it will make me feel so much better. I read a lot and I have read
and watched the Dr. Oz show. Everyone says to me you are healthy. well not
quite if I don't sleep.

thank you

This is the perfect lifestyle one may have. I appreciate...

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back with a follow up detailing the lifestyle of a vibrant "young" old lady with physical activity taken to the next level of personification.

I appreciate the best part of your lifestyle "The Kayak". It really is encouraging at this age of life. The hiking-indeed is the best exercise for heart and that may have been a reason for your well maintained blood pressure of 125/69 (although a lot more includes too).

Diet plan is good for your age. But I want to add SALMON FISH (in any form your taste buds permits you). It is best next food for you.

I hope best of the times for you ahead too. I like the way you trust this health forum. Please remain in touch in future too through my personal fast acting link: tinyurl.com/drhanifmd
