Brief Answer:
Sleepwalking is a neurological issue.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

That is a very smart question. Most people look for quick cures. Educated people look for permanent solutions to their health issues.

Sleepwalking is called as "somnabulism", in the medical sciences.

This is a phenomena. Normally speaking, when a person goes from a waking state to a state of sleep, he is said to be a a hypnagogic trance, when he transitions from a state of sleep to awakening, he is said to go into hypnopompic trance.

At this point, there are "centers" in the human brain for almost everything. The brain has a band - a region that controls muscular movement. Voluntary movement, for instance when you reach out and hold, say a glass of water. When you go to sleep, during trance formations, the brain automatically blocks those centers that control movement.

In somnabulism, this mechanism is overruled.

A person, then can whilst asleep, perform totally competent mundane acts of say, opening a refrigerator, or say walk across a room.

This is not pathological. (A diseased state)

The reverse occurs in sleep paralysis. A person awakens, mentally, in a state of alertness, while the body is asleep.

I hope these illustrative examples and analogies answer your question.
