Question: Out of the blue this morning I had a few drops of bloody urine at the beginning of urinating, after which everything was normal. What should I do immediately? Should I make an appointment with my urologist or first see my family doctor?

Brief Answer:
Different possible causes

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

You can see your GP first. It is possible that the blood is due to a common reason such as an infection of some aspect of the urinary tract. This would be detectable on urinalysis and treated by antibiotics that can be prescribed by your family doctor.

Some of the causes of blood in the urine include- (1)infection
(2)stone in the urinary tract
(3)trauma
(4)benign (not dangerous) or malignant enlargement of the prostate
(5) side effect of medication such as blood thinners
(6)blood disorder
(7)disease of the kidney
(8)cysts of the kidney. Cysts are sacs, they can occur as persons get older and in many cases are not significant

If your doctor does not believe an infection is the cause, then imaging, such as ultrasound , should be done.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
