Brief Answer:
Possible excessive straining or colonic irritation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Mucus is secreted by the colonic mucosa to move the stools smoothly.
2. This mucus discharge, could be due to intestinal irritation commonly. If it is associated with abdominal colic then it can be a sign of infection.
3. If no abdominal colic and only slight mucus discharge (Excessive straining can give rise to clear mucus discharge - during constipation feeling or otherwise) then you need not worry. However, if there is abdominal colic or bowel habits altered (constipation or diarrhea), then a colonoscopy evaluation is necessary to rule out any infection or tumors.
4. Take plenty of water (at least 6-7 liters per day) along with fiber rich diet.

Hope it helps.
