What Causes Slurred Speech And Numb Feeling In Mouth?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Feb 2015
Question: I woke up with my speech slurred and a numb feeling in my mouth. I currently take 37.5 mg (2 pills) of Effexor for depression and 7.5mg of Apr-zopiclone at night to fall asleep. This happened a number of years ago when I was on Prosac. Could this be the same experience? Should I be going to emergency or just stop meds and see doctor in coming days?

Brief Answer:
Possible mini-stroke

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns.

You woke this morning with slurred speech and numb feeling in your mouth. These symptoms could be the signs of early stroke. I recommend that you be seen immediately by a local emergency room. If you wait too long these symptoms could be permanent. With early treatment strokes can be treated and the symptoms reversed. Therefore I strongly urge that you all either 911 or have someone drive you to a local emergency room.

These symptoms could just be related to your medication but I would not recommend waiting. It is better to ear on the side of caution than wait and have significant problems later.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact HCM again with your health care concerns or questions.
