What Causes Small Bump On Tongue After Tongue Piercing?

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Jun 2014
Question: About three weeks after I had my tongue pierced I developed a small bump next to the piercing. I have just finished a course of ten-day antibiotics to treat a possible infection. What could this little bumpy and could possibly be a keloid? It is not losing but it seems to be getting somewhat bigger.

Brief Answer:
unlikely to be keloid or infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare Magic!
The fleshy mass might be a skin tag that has remained during the tongue piercing and now it is swollen.
Another possibility is of granulation tissue formation in which case it will bleed on touch.
Third possibility is of a hypertrophic scar.
All of them can be treated with nipping the fleshy mass surgically under local anesthesia.
Keloid is a longterm phenomenon, it is too early to say if it is a keloid.
I hope the advise would be informative and useful for you.
Take Care!
