What Causes Small Purple Spot On Outside Of Labia Minora?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Sep 2014
Question: Hi there. I recently noticed a small black/purple spot on the outside of my labia minora. Not raised, not sore. I also, have a tiny itchy bump along the edge of my labia minora, just above the spot. I shaved a couple of weeks ago, and I am not sure if I nicked it, but it seems to have started after that. The bump is tiny and just feels hard. It only feels irritating if I touch it. My main concern is the black/ purple spot. Please advise. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Probably caused by the shaving!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this bump that you have described. From all the information you have provided, this seems an inflammatory reaction following trauma sustained during the shaving. There seems to be no signs and symptoms of any possible infection. There is nothing special that needs to be done at this time. Monitoring for any other concerns would be enough.

It should normally regress over time. However, this would take some time and you should be patient, lest you would freak out.

In all, after shave bump. No signs of infection and would resolve spontaneously over time but not too soon. Avoid any repeated picking as this would greatly delay healing and may aggravate it.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

What about the black/ purple spot on the outer side of the labia minora, the bump is close to the spot. So probably just a small bruise under the skin? The spot is not raised. I am freaked out because I am reading the internet about melanoma down there. Am I over reacting?

Brief Answer:
Yes, you are over reacting!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this follow up precision.

For sure you are over reacting. Melanomas originate from long standing moles. It takes several years for a mole to transform into a melanoma. You don't have a mole and getting to melanoma is a non starter. Please, simply ignore the non specific stuffs you have been reading online.

This has a time relationship to shaving. Suggesting of after shave bumps. No need to manufacture an artificial problem and die for.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information should need be.

I was able to express the little bump, and it looks like a little pus came out. Was it a pimple? It is still there, but I am going to leave it alone now. I am going to make an appointment with a doctor just for peace of mind. I have never had this happen before.

Brief Answer:
An appointment is not necessary right now!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up information. This is still very suggestive of after shave folliculitis, It normally regresses spontaneously.

A doctor's visit at this time would not really be mandatory. However, if you want it fr examination, that is okay but I doubt if there would be any new suggestions on management that would accelerate healing.

I wish you well. Should you visit a doctor, let me know what the final thoughts are.
