What Causes Small Raised Bumps Near The Base Of Penis?

default
Posted on Tue, 12 May 2015
Question: Last week I detected some small raised bumps at hair follicles near the base of my penis... It sort of freaked me out so I applied hydrogen peroxide to them, they immediately turned white, then dark and almost scab like with dark surrounding the base of the hair... I did call a doctor and described what I had experienced, they told me to use gold bond which dried the area up and prescribed an antibiotic... The initial condition is gone, no bumps but the area in general is raw my guess using hydrogen peroxide on sensitive skin was a bad idea, and the gold bond drying out the skin out and my twice daily washing and causes pealing? it's almost like a scrape now but because of where its at its difficult to heal because the skin there is very elastic and with the hair in the area..

This has all happened in the past 3 days.

My main question now is how to care for this now?

Should I wash it daily? Soap and water? just keep it dry?

Should I use antibiotic cream or hydrocortisone cream or A&D cream or nothing?

Should I leave it open or attempt a band aid?

What should I anticipate for a heal time on something like this?

Brief Answer:
Combination cream with antifungal, antibacterial & corticosteroid.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Avoid using soaps and irritants for washing. Instead you can used saline or warm water. After wiping applying ointments or creams with combination of anti bacterial, antifungal and corticosteroid will be helpful.
Don't use band aid. You can put a soft gauze piece. Also use loose under wear. No need to wash repeatedly if wound is clean. You can irrigate or gently wash with saline if any sluff is there.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Thank you for your response... Easing up on the cleaning has reduced redness surrounding the skin peel area. That area is not as sensitive to the touch, just sort of seems to be sweating localized to the area the skin peeled, especially noticeable when I wake up in the morning but not so much throughout the day, drys out, no scab or anything, guessing it's healing?

I am having trouble finding an over the counter with the combination of antibacterial, anti fungal, and the corticosteroid? Is there a specific product you recommend or can prescribe to me?

Thank you so much for your attentiveness in addressing my questions, very much appreciated, this has been a bit of a traumatic experience for me

Hi and welcome.

Thank you for your follow up query.

You can give some time as it is improving. Most likely its a sign of healing.

Over the counter multiaction creams will be available in medical shops (pharmacy). You can ask in your pharmacy. It can be one with combination of clotrimazole , betamethasone and neomycin or with miconazole , hydrocortisone and neoycin. Several brands like Daktarin is available.

Let me know if anything not clear. I am happy to help you.
