What Causes Small Red Spots Around Ankle Along With Swelling?
It could be CVI due to DVT.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
It could be Chronic venous insufficiency(CVI). CVI usually happens after and as a sequelae of Deep Vein thrombosis(DVT). If you can upload a photo of the lesion I would be better able to help.
Did you have swelling in the legs or calves earlier that you remember?
That could have been DVT and if you wouldn't have treated it then you can get CVI. DVT damages the valves of the veins and therefore leads to increased venous pressure at the ankle leading to pigmentation, ulceration & itching, etc. It is managed by us Vascular Surgeons. I usually advice a Color Doppler to scan the venous system of the involved limb to see the status of the Deep and superficial venous system.
To treat the condition I usually advice Class II Compression stockings uptill thigh to be worn at all times initially and later only when standing or walking. Also, I advice my patients to take Tab Daflon 500mg twice daily for three to six months. It is a difficult condition to treat and takes time to show improvement. You should see a Vascular Surgeon near you for best treatment.
You should keep the involved limb elevated above the heart level at night and whenever lying down.
Do let me know if there are any other queries on the subject.
Take care,
