What Causes Sneezing, Swollen Eyes, Puffy Nose And Jaw Pain?
Question: Hello, I have been sneezing, my eyes are swollen, buring and teary. Nose feels stuffy but I am blowing it all the time because its running like a sugar tree in spirng. my gland running down next to my left ear and under it is swollen and very tender to touch. When I open my mouth to eat it hurts my jaw. I am miserable!

As you would know, if these symptoms are recurring then it is likely that they are due to allergies.
If they are acute symptoms (recent, short term), then an acute infection , likely viral, is the cause. If viral , medications may help to relieve the symptoms slightly but need to wait for the illness to resolve on its own.
The gland would enlarge in response the symptoms. They increase in size with any infection or inflammation. This can sometimes take 4 to 6 weeks to return to normal size even after the infection has gone.
(a)Mucinex contains a mucolytic to help break up mucus, this should be continued.
(b)If the allergy meds contain an antihistamine and decongestant they should also be continued.
If there is a cough then a cough suppressant can be added
(c)A topical decongestant and topical steroid nasal spray should be added to this to help decrease the nasal secretions and stuffy sensation.
Eg of topical decongestants would be oxymetazoline and xylometazoline- these would be over the counter
Topical steroid nasal sprays may require a prescription - nasonex, nasocort, flonase, rhinocort
(d)use an anti inflammatory pain killer to help with any discomfort eg ibuprofen, naproxen, cataflam
(e)rest and fluids
Symptoms typically last 1 to 2 weeks. Associated fatigue can last up to three weeks.
