What Causes Snoring Post A Deviated Septum Repair?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jul 2016
Question: I recently had my deviated septum repaired and still snore almost every night. I am not overweight, I don't drink alcohol and sleep on my side. This is driving my wife crazy and I wake up tired the majority of the time. What can I do to stop this problem?

Thank you,

Brief Answer:
Sleep study

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you continue to have significant snoring despite recent nasal surgery. You need a sleep study. You need to find out if you still have some sort of obstructive component to your snoring. You have done all that you can possibly do to help stop the snoring. If you still have obstruction then you may need to be placed on a CPAP device. This device uses positive pressure to open the airways and keep your from snoring and get better overall sleep. But until you have that study done you could be chasing your tail and never find the rot cause of your snoring.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions

I actually had a sleep study performed and I don't have sleep apnea. I know that's good news, but it would have explained my condition if I did have it....

I do have a small amount on bone fragment still in my left nasal passage and the ENT told me that it's inoperable at this point. I don't know why, but that's what he said. Maybe I should get a second opinion.

So, you think a CPAP will do the trick?

Brief Answer:
CPAP

Detailed Answer:
I am glad to hear that you had a sleep study and that you did not have sleep apnea. The CPAP can only be used for those who have sleep apnea. SO you can't use one at this time. It may have helped though by helping to keep your airways open. You might be able to convince a doctor to order a trial of CPAP to see if it helps with the snoring.

I think you should get a second opinion and the snoring and the bone fragment. If it blocking your passageways then that will increase your snoring.
