What Causes Soft Painful Bump On Back Of Head?
Question: I have a painful bump on the back of my head (but not like a pimple or zit). The skin is slightly red from me picking at it but also slightly yellow. It is a soft lump that is easily palpated. It is not an open sore and doesn't seem to have a "head" of any kind. Any idea what this could be?
Brief Answer:
Sebaceus cyst is the most probable diagnosis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Bump on head is usually a sebaceous cyst - benign lesion which do not turn into a cancer. It is soft, rounded and usually painless. Can get reddish and swollen when manipulating with it.
Sometimes it can get infected so the pain appears caused by pus accumulation. That is why, this lesion should be removed with small incision and local anesthesia.
Please consult general surgeon or dermatologist with this issue.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
