What Causes Soft Swollen Bump Near Big Toe?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: I have a soft bump on the side of my foot near the big toe. It doesn't seem to hurt but is swollen. I think I used to have a similar bump on the left side. My father and grandmother have had bunions. What does my foot bump look like? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Can be due to bunion.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The lump on your foot can be due to a bunion. It is not a soft swelling. A bunion is usually a bony hard swelling. If it is a soft lump with redness and pain then an infection also needs to be ruled out.
Rest and wearing loose (wider) shoes or sandals can often relieve the irritating pain. Oral pain killers and local cold-pack application is sometimes helpful as well.
I recommend you to -
*Wear sandles with a wide and deep toe box. This can often solve the problem and prevent you from needing more treatment.
*Wear felt or foam pads on your foot to protect the bunion.
* Wear sandles with Correct Toes spacers. Spacers to separate the first and second toes.
I hope this answers your query.

Thank you. Were you able to see the pictures i attached?

It is a firm swelling. I don't have any pain when I touch it. No redness either.
