What Causes Sore Throat After An Oral Sex?

Posted on Thu, 23 Apr 2015
Question: Hi, I have e seeing someone new for the past few months. We started have sex a few weeks ago and I stopped, I wasn't ready. I've had some mild itching since then but no gross or smelly discharge. I thought maybe it was from shaving that area. About 5 days ago we were together and started to have sex, but I had to get up in the middle to XXXXXXX the restroom and that kind od killed it. Later we had oral sex. Since I was still having the itching, I went to me doctor yesterday to check for a yeast infection. She decided since I am nw sexually active to also check for chlamydia, uti andi think vaginosis (sp?). My throat has been a little sore and tonight I noticed that one of my tonsls has white spots on it similar to those you get with strep throat. I am not running a fever though. Can a yeast infection spread to your throat? Can a STD cause white patches? I am a little freaked out. I am in my 50s so obviously old enough to know better than to have unprotected sex. :( The man I am seeing is about the same age and as far as I know has not had many partners either, but I guess it only takes one.

Brief Answer:
yeast infection can occur in throat also

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM
Thanks for posting your query.

Itching of genitals following an intercourse in a female, likely possibility is yeast infection. Examination of vaginal discharge with investigations will confirm the diagnosis.
As you had oral sex, oral yeast infection is quite possible.
Presence of Diabetes facilitates this condition.
After confirmation, antifungal antibiotics by mouth and local application will clear the infection.
Partner also should be treated.
Consult a Dermatologist and get his /her guidance

I don't have diabetes, I do get checked annually since it runs in my family. I also eat well and exercise frequently.

So do you think it unlikely that this would be from an STD?

I also have a slight metallic taste in my mouth.
I read something about tonsil stones??

Brief Answer:
yeast infection following sex is STD

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back
Tonsillitis of bacterial origin would associate with fever. As you don't have fever, bacterial infection is unlikely.
Yeast infection following sex contact also is considered as STD.
With the help of investigation your dermatologist will fix the problem and treat the same.

Thank you for your quick response(s)
I'll keep my fingers crossed that none of this is anything more serious than a yeast infection and maybe the throat is unrelated. Just a coincidence thst it occurred around the same time.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
screening for other STD /HIV is mandatory

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome back.
As you had both vaginal and oral sex, both can be related. There might not be anything serious. But a screening for other STD/HIV after appropriate time is better as there are unmanifested conditions can co- exist.
