What Causes Sore Throat, Earache And Swollen Lymph Glands In The Neck?

Question: I have a sore throat, earache, tender abs painful glands (neck are), hot neck, feel achy and tired. Also my chest feels cold inside. Also I have a lot of saliva being produced which I am spitting out - this saliva looks ok. It is the quantity that's the issue. I have had this for three/four days and I am exhausted. Last week I felt I had hay fever coming so took 1 piretise per day for three days. Also difficulty swallowing. I have to chew for a long time. Hurts to swallow.

I am sorry for the situation you're having.

From the symptoms reported, it seems that you're having a viral infection of upper respiratory tract.

I advise as following:
- keep well hydrated
- take a mucolytic to dissolve increased sputum. Can take OTC carbocystein or acetylcystein
- take antihistaminic at bedtime
- nasal spray
- antiinflammatory meds like ibuprofen or acetaminophen to reduce inflammation and pain
- gargle with warm water and salt
- use oral antiseptic spray
- applying cold balm on your back can also ease your symptoms

If after following these advice you won't have improvement in a couple of days, consult further with your physician as might need prescription antibiotics
