I clean and dry the area every time I use the restroom, and I shower or bathe once a day (I dont have time to shower more then once). the area is sore to the touch, there is also what looks like yellow ooze discharge on and around the stitches! does this sound like I have an infection?? if so how can I make it better??

Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.

The episiotomy wound may take a week or two to heal and this duration varies from person to person and also from the nature of the wound. It is good to know that you are keeping the wound dry.

The soreness is partly due to the incision, partly due to the local edema and in rare instances, infection.

The discharge could be secondary to the ointments and powders applied on the wound or rarely due to infection.

In your case, I would suggest having a checkup with your consultant and get proper management. Cold compresses applied to the wound help in relieving the edema. Analgesics and appropriate antibiotics help to heal the wound. Please maintain genital hygiene.

Hope your query has been answered. Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
