What Causes Soreness In The Genital Area While On Amoxicillin?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Sep 2017
Question: Dr gave me course of Amoxcillin tablets which contain penicillin , to which I am allergic. 4 or so days in treatment my genital region became sore and I developed little white spots. I have been using a cream called EURAX which has worked but my genital is still sore. I had none of these little spots anywhere else. I have no pain whilst urinating

Brief Answer:
candida?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

this manifestation does not sound like an allergic reaction although I can't 100% exclude it. If you've seen white spots on the mucosal surface of your genitals (not the skin) perhaps with red areas around the white spots then it may be canidida (a fungal infection), as such infections commonly occur during antibiotic treatment. Patients with diabetes are more prone to such infections. You'd better contact your doctor for inspection and appropriate modification of your treatment. Eurax won't eliminate a fungus. If you've had a serious reaction to penicillin then you shouldn't take amoxicillin anyway.

I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
