What Causes Soreness Of Testis Inspite Of Having Mumps?

Testicular atrophy and azoospermia...
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for posting.
I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns.
Mumps is a contagious and infectious viral disease causing swelling of the parotid salivary glands in the face, and a risk of sterility in adult males.
Except parotid salivary glands, this disease affects testicles, by causing testicular atrophy and azoospermia.
In the most common cases this disease affects only one testicle and in rare cases it can affect both testicles. If it has affected only one testicle then you shouldn't worry because you will have semen again.
To check your testicles condition you need:
- Abdominal and testicular ultrasound.
- Spermogram.
- Complete blood count.
- Urine test.
- Testosterone levels test.
- Physical examination by your XXXXXXX
Your testicles will be inflamed for 20 days.
Consult your XXXXXXX
Ask me for anything unclear.
All the best.
Dr. Behar.

I am very concerned because it has been almost 3 months since I was first sick.
This is what does not make sense: My testicles still ache regularly, I still have absolutely NO sex drive at all (prior to this I had sex with my new wife several times a day), the last time we attempted intercourse I was totally unable to maintain an erection, I urinated small amounts of blood on two different occasion, .....
now that the swelling is gone, shouldnt I be producing testosterone by now? and thus having some relief of symptoms? what is the connection with the blood in my urine? and the persistant aching testicles dont make sense either.
will I ever have any restoration of normalcy? -- is this this a common course for this disease? especially the duration of it??
Epididymitis
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for writing back.
The primary cause of Orchitis is mumps disease.
But symptoms that you are experiencing shows us a complication of Orchitis that is called Epididymitis. Epididymitis is a painful inflammation of the epididymis.
Epididymis is a highly convoluted duct behind the testis, along which sperm passes to the vas deferens.
Epididymitis is caused by chlamydia(pathogenic bacteria).
Symptoms that you are experiencing are common for this disease.
But Epididymitis has last for more than 8 weeks because you haven't got a treatment for this disease.
To get a treatment you should confirm the diagnosis for Epididymitis.
To do that you need:
- Testicular doppler ultrasound.
- Culture of a first void urine sample.
The results of these tests will determine the antibiotic medicine that you need.
You should also consult your urologist.
After you get a treatment for Epididymitis, you will have a restoration of normalcy.
If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer.
Wish you good health.
