What Causes Speaking Difficulty In An Elderly Person With Parkinson's Disease?

Question: My father is 72 yrs old and is diagnosed with Parkinson's plus. He was recently admitted to xxxx hospital due to an infection and was discharged after a week of antibiotic treatment etc...Due to his condition his speech is not very good and is unable to communicate. From last 3-4 days he seems to be in severe pain while passing urine frequently. He has been circumcised in the past and hence there seems to be no infection from the outside.

Per previous suggestion from HealthMagic doctor, i have got both Urine test (routine and culture) report and will attach it to this case soon.

Please advice.

Thanks for query and follow up .

As per the urine culture report of your father he has UTI due to E-Coli organisms which are resistant to almost all commonly used antibiotics in treating UTI .

Sensitivity pattern indicates sensitivity to only Carbapenum and to Third generation Cephalosporins .

I would suggest you to start Carbapenum (Imipenum ) injections .It will give him relief from burning urination and to control infection within 5 days .

Thanks for follow up .Imepenum has to be given as intravenous infusion over a period of 30-5 minutes Hence has to be given by trained nurse .

The dosedepends upon the severity of infection and status of renal function ..
Your treating Urologist or Physician will help you guide as regards dose of the drug .But in most of the cases it is 1 to 1.5 gms daily in divided doses .
