Question: For the last 18 months sometimes when I randomly spit it is tinted red like blood. I have no other symptoms other then chronic sinuses and seasonal allergies. Could this be sinuses. And if so how come I don't get bloid from my nose only my spit?

Brief Answer:
Most probably due to hyperemic mucosa irritation

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. In case of allergies/nasal infection, mucosal lining becomes irritated and become soft with increased blood flow. Now when you spit then blood tinge may appear in it. It resolves itself as soon as the infection gets resolved. Meanwhile i would suggest you following things:

- Take hot water in a cup, add 1 table spoon salt in it. Perform gargles (mouth wash) with it three times a day for at least 3 days. It will give soothing effect.
- Take boiling water in a pot, put your head over the steam and cover whole with a sheet. Take deep breaths in it.(Avoid getting closer else it might cause burn). Do this twice a day.

If it persists then you need to visit hospital and get an appointment for a "Consultant ENT Specialist" for examination and further workup.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!

highly unlikely

Hello

Thank you for the followup query.

Its highly unlikely to be cancer. Sebaceous cyst is a benign disease and is treated by excising it under local anesthesia.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Not compulsory

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Its not compulsory that you remain sick for longer time before knowing that you have cancer. Some of the common signs of cancer include:
- Recent increase in size of swelling
- ulceration of the overlying skin with change in color
- painful to touch
- +ve family history of that cancer

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.

How do I know if it has gotten big if I only just spit blood some can't see anything. Could it just be post nasal drip

Brief Answer:
Apologize for the mistake

Detailed Answer:
Hello

First of all please accept my apology for misunderstanding. Secondly, in cancer there is significant hemoptysis which means coughing up blood. In your case its only a red tinge in spit which is highly unlikely for cancer. For your personal satisfaction, you can visit hospital and get an appointment for a "Pulmonologist". He will perform workup to rule out any possibility of cancer.

Thank You
