What Causes Spot On Left Breast?

default
Posted on Sat, 2 Aug 2014
Question: I have a spot that has come up on my left breast. It has been there awhile. Maybe a year. It changes a lot. If you were to try and pop it (I wouldn't) it pulls in. When I touch it, my husband and mom also feel a spot underneath that might be the size of a pea give or take. It just recently has changed again. I will attach those pics for you.
A little history of my family. My maternal grandmother lost a breast and passed away from breast cancer/Alzheimer's. My maternal Aunt has also had breast cancer recently. Both were estrogen positive and I was told to stay away from everything like that. My mother has had several lumps removed and they thankfully all came back great.
I don't know if it's my bra rubbing it or not but this is how it is today. I guess I need to know if you feel like I need to make a urgent dr appt.

Brief Answer:
Cancer has to be excluded.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for posting in health care magic.
As per your pics, it looks like simple infection and inflammation of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. But, the duration of 1 year is against infection.
Initially, I will prescribe Antibiotic and anti inflammatory tablets to my patients with similar complaints. If there is no response, I will excise the whole portion of the involved area and send for histopathological examination.
Usually,Breast cancer will present as hard swelling inside the breast .Rarely, it presents as an ulcer over the breast.
I request you to consult a Surgeon and get examined.
If you come back after consultation, I will clarify further.
Nothing to worry. Hope the chronic ulcer is due to trauma.
Wish you good health.
Regards

No, its not from trauma. I have been keeping a bandaid on it with ointment on it. Its really sore.

Brief Answer:
It has to be excised.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Since it a year old with no significant changes in the size, I feel it is less likely to be cancerous. However since you said it changes, I would not like to take a chance. It is better to get it excised and send for histopathological examination. You will have a better picture about this lump through this test.

Hope this helped.

Regards
