Brief Answer:
threatened abortion

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM.

Firstly any bleeding in pregnancy should be investigated as it is termed as threatened abortion. As you are just 4 weeks pregnant the darkish brown bleed may just be an implantation bleed which is likely. But in either case an ultrasound pelvis transvaginally is a must to rule out any retroplacental clot or sub-chorionic haemorrhage which shall indicate a possible abortion.

Also it is too early for the heart beat to be established but foetal pole must have been established, so check the progress and viability of pregnancy you must get a serial beta hcg test done where a 66 per cent rise in two value 48hrs apart shall confirm a viable pregnancy and then progesterone support can be taken rightfully to support the pregnancy.
Progesterone is safe for the pregnancy and infant is required for placental growth into the endometrium.
you should consult your physician and then opt for the progesterones after taking the ultrasound and serum beta hcg .
