What Causes Stiffness In Neck With Appetite Loss After Diarrhea And Fever?
Stiff neck could mean trouble.
Detailed Answer:
Hello Mrs. XXXXXXX
Welcome to healthcaremagic.com and thank you for posting your query.
I have gone through your question carefully and my observations are as follows..
1. Diarrhea with fever indicates infective and most likely bacterial diarrhea.
2. Fever of any origin would respond to tylenol.
3. No fever since two days could indicate improvement (generally subsiding fever means recovery).
4. Tiredness and low appetite are likely to persist for a few days and your son will eventually feel better.
5. Stiff neck however could mean two things, either it could be just due to some sprain due to faulty position while sleeping or the infection has spread to the brain/meninges, if the cause is the later, then it would usually be associated with high grade fever and altered mental state like confusion, irritability, drowsiness, vomiting(projectile in nature), headache, convulsions etc., so in the absence of other symptoms, it is unlikely to be the later.
My suggestion to you is, watch for any of the signs mentioned and at the first sign of any of these take him to the emergency room.
General supportive measures to help recovery are..
1. Good hydration - Maintain adequate hydration by giving him plenty of fluids orally, you can give him all fruit juices with added sugar and salt to replace the lost electrolytes due to diarrhea. You can also give him fresh tender coconut water if you can get. Otherwise, WHO ORS will do.
2. Good nutrition - Give him what he likes to eat, avoid too hot and too spicy foods. Soups will be good too.
3. Check the temperature once every 4/8 hours.
4. Adequate sleep -- Allow him to rest as much as he wants and he should get about 10 hours of sleep.
I sincerely hope this answers your question, you are most welcome to write back to me if you have any doubts.
Wishing your son a speedy recovery.
Warm regards.
