Brief Answer:
Due to arthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The symptoms that you have described are suggestive of an inflammation of the carpo- metacarpal or metacarpo phalangeal joint. This can happen due to arthritis. You can take mild pain killer and do a hot compress in the area for relief. Applying a local analgesic gel will also help.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
