What Causes Stinging Or Burning Sensation After Minor Trauma?

Posted on Thu, 22 May 2014
Question: Whenever someone taps me, hits me or slaps me on my muscles I get extreme pain that feels like I've been slapped really hard. Almost like a stinging/burning pain. Especially my back because usually people hit me there. I don't know whether they are joking or do it intentionally but it hurts a lot! And I get bruise marks or red marks. I take synthroid and also off chemo for more than 5 years. What could be the reason? Are my muscles too weak or sensitive and why is that? And this happens anywhere I get hit but my back muscles are the most sensitive. Some people only tap me but I still get red marks from being tapped.

Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Gentleman,

First and foremost let me reassure you, its nothing serious and calls for no cause for concern.
Some individual do experience red marks even after minor/trivial trauma. When there is minor trauma , the mast cells( they are type of white blood cells) present in the skin release inflammatory mediators, which causes dilatation of blood vessel and stimulation of free nerve ending causing pain. In majority of individual its not seen. It is definitely not related to any muscle weakness.
As you grow old, there will be significant improvement in symptoms.

I would advise you the following which will definitely be helpful

1. If possible avoid trauma
2. Short term use of Antihistamines : 15-20 days use of Hydroxyzine will be helpful.
3. Apply Moisturising cream containing aloe vera and Vitamin E , it will be beneficial to some extent.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care
