What Causes Stomach Cramps And Green Stool When Suffering From Mesenteric Fibromatosis?
Question: My husband has a mesenteric fibromatosis, which we are handling with a XXXXXXX shunt. The past couple of days he has had cramping and now has a green stool. Any recommendations?

I am sorry to hear your husband's trouble and i am sure you know in detail the prognosis and troubles of this desmoid tumour.
Miss XXXXXXX i want you to know that this is the normal presentation in such desmoid tumors and recently placed XXXXXXX shunt, that of chylous ascites retroperitoneal shunting may change the color of the stools due to bile in it. All you can do is give your husbands some antispasmodics and pain killers.
one thing i would worry about sudden greening of stool would be blockage of shunt resulting in chylous ascites which is very common in such procedures and need to be assessed.
Rest you know such mesenteric involved tumors and predispositions to adenomatous polyps and gut disorders make the gut of such patient quite troublesome and cramping and slight stool color change is nothing in front of that. God forbid some times even resection of the bowels are needed to prevent intestinal ischemia and neurovascular compromise.
sulindac and tamoxifen are well prescribed management. discuss some other options like vinblastine, methotrexate, radiation therapy , imatinib and hydroxyurea with your doctor.
Rest you should know that this fibromatosis is highly recurring and this manifestation may be its recurrence too. Get to a gastroenterologist and let them take care of your husband's current condition. Symptomatic management and assessment the shunt functioning and monitoring of tumor is advised. Electrolytes and nutritional support should be the top priority.
