I read carefully your query. From what I'm understanding it looks like discomfort and diarrhea has started after you have started using the birth controll pills and metformin.
From the two drugs, metformin is the one who causes gastrointestinal side effects.
In general when I start it with my patients I start with 500 mg once day for one week, then 500mg twice day 500mg for the other week, and so on...increasing it grdually. This will make the body support the medicine better and not experience such side effects.
I don't know the exsact reasons why your doctor decided to give metformine in that dose, so I would recommend that before taking some action to talk with him.
You may try the strtegy I explained until you reach the dose you are actually taking.
If even after trying this you still have the diarrhea or discomfort, you will need to talk with your doctor to switch the medicine to another one with the same effect, but with lower side effects.
