What Causes Stomach Discomfort, Burping And Diarrhea After Having Diabetes Medicines?
Question: Hi,
I have type II diabetes. I take Vildagliptin 50 mg in combination with Lipitor 10 mg, Ramipril 5 mg and metformin 1 g in the nights and face significant discomfort with sour burping and diarrhea. However, if I take off vildagliptin for the night dose I do not face this particular side effect. In the mornings I take vildagliptin in combination with 1 g of metformin without any side effects.
What could be the problem with the night combination? Any reply would be appreciated.
Thanking you,

Brief Answer:
Medication after food and dose splitting
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using HCM.
I went through your query and understood your concerns.
gastric discomfort is a common side effect seen in many patients taking metformine.
I usually advice my patientswith these advice
1.Dose splitting- as you are taking 1 gm of metformine , you can take 500 mg in afternoon and 500 mg in night time.
2.Take medication with/after food.
These measures usually reduce gastric discomfort.
Hope I answered your query. Feel free to ask further related query. I will be glade to answer them.
Wish you a good health.
