What Causes Strange Odor From Sweat And Urine?

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Oct 2016
Question: I have been getting a strange odor from my sweat and my urine. I take a shower every day but immediately afterwards I start to sweat profusely and get a strong strange odor. I am using the same soaps for several years. This strange sweating and odor I have had for the last year. Now I am detecting the same strange odor in my family. I do not know how to describe the odor, so my attempts to get any information from my personal physician has been useless. The only thing I can think of that we all take is vitamins. My wife has had trouble smelling anything since she had strong hormone therapy 30 years ago for fertility.

Brief Answer:
Kidney function requires monitoring.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir.

I can certainly understand your concern.

Strange odour from sweat and urine require carefully assessment of kidney function.

Likewise, it's important to get screened urinary aminoacids .

Leaking of aminoacids can contribute to such odour.

To control the excessive sweating, I generally prescribe oral pills of Glycopyrrolate one tab daily in the morning.

Please check with your physician if he shares my view and if can prescribe these pills to you.

Post your further questions if any.
Thank you.

I greatly appreciate your narrowing down the possibilities to kidney function. I failed to mention that one of my kidneys was measured three or four years ago to be operating at a fraction (over half) of what it should.

Brief Answer:
Further renal assessment may be needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir

Thank you for your feedback.

Since you seem to have compromised function, the possibility of malodour can be related to it.

It's important to reassess the function of the kidney via an ultrasound abdomen and urine for aminioacids and most important of all is GFR estimation.

Further management if any is largely on test results.

Post your further questions if any.
