default
Posted on Thu, 24 Jul 2014
Question: My husband has strong pain in groin area, especially while sitting. Orthopedist wants to do CT scan, since x-ray did not show significant changes to hip joint. Being concerned with radiation in CT I wonder if it wouldn't be better to have MRI. Or perhaps other diagnostic method would be better?

Brief Answer:
Request for MRI

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Your concerns are absolutely right.
Yes, MRI can be done in place of CT scan.
It may also deliver necessary information and no radiation at all.
MRI is better for the tendons and soft tissues, avascular necrosis, cartilage, arthritis and even for fractures.
Please discuss with your Doctor and he would be definitely happy to order an MRI.

The CT is usually ordered as it is cheaper, easily available everywhere and of course it does diagnose most of the diseases. MRI when available is also a good choice.
