What Causes Strong Smelling Urine?
Question: I have been having a recurring issue, that seems like dehydration. My urine is pungent all the time, and my heart seems to pump hard or thump in my chest. Also my joints seem to be enflamed and injury prone. Any ideas at all? XXXXXXX

Pungent urine signifies a possible infection of the urinary tract. Urinalysis , urine culture / sensitivity testing should be advised for confirmation. Treatment can be started , based on the urinalysis results and tailored according to the culture which may take longer time.
Unpleasant sensations of the heart beating are referred to as palpitations. It can be related to anxiety, panic disorder, arrhythmia etc. To rule out any serious cardiac cause, an EKG can be done. If its normal then most likely its related to anxiety. Blood pressure and heart rate should also be determined.
Arthritis / Joint inflammation/ pain can be related to rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, rheumatic fever etc. To determine the cause, CBC, RA factor, ESR, Anti CCP antibody , ANA profile can be advised in consultation with your doctor after physical examination of the joints involved.
