Brief Answer:
Neck stiffness is a sign of muscle or bone injury

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX My name is Vinay Bhardwaj and I'd like to help you with your situation. Thanks for giving me the opportunity.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by something getting stuck at your neck. Does That mean you are having difficulty swallowing?

The inability to move your neck from side to side makes me belive that you may have a muscle or bone injury in the neck.. but much more concerning is the drowsiness you have reported.

On first glance....the pain, plus the inability plus the drowsiness points to an injury of the spinal cord.

But then again, you have said this has been going on for more than a week. Any spinal cord injury would have become catastrophic in that amount of time.

So in the end. I am a little confused. I need more information. So I will ask you a few questions.

But let me preface my questions with this warning. If you feel that you are unable to remain conscious or you are having difficulty breathing.. then you need to go to an Emergency Room right away and this platform will not be adequate to help you.

Now, to my questions:

1) How did the pain start? Was there an injury? Did you wake up with the pain? Was the onset of the pain gradual or sudden?

2) Can you describe the pan for me? For example, does it feel like an electric shock, or is the pain more of an ache from having fallen or gotten a bruise?

3) Does the pain extend further beyond the neck? Does the pain extend to your chest, your arms or into your face?

4) Do you have ANY difficulty breathing?

5) How many hours of sleep have you had in the last 2 days (48h)

6) Do you smoke or drink alcohol? If you do, when was the last time you did either?

7) Do you have ANY known medical conditions or diagnoses?

8) Do you take ANY prescription medication?

9) How have you been managing the pain so far? Have you taken any pain killers or muscle relaxants?

10) Have you had a problem like this in the past?

If you feel you are safe enough to take the time to answer these questions, please do so and the information you provide will be very useful in figuring out what is wrong. on the other hand, if you feel you are not in a safe situation... then get to a hospital immediately.

Either way, I look forward to your response,

Vinay

Brief Answer:
I am very glad there is nothing serious.. Sounds like a muscle spasm.

Detailed Answer:
Hey XXXXXXX Thanks for answering my questions,

I am grateful for the information you have given me. From the sound of the information you have given me, you have suffered from a muscle pull / muscle strain in the muscles of the neck.

The muscles that control movement of the spine in the neck are VERY thin and delicate, but extremely powerful.. So when they are strained they tend to lock down the spine and prevent you from moving your neck. This a protective mechanism.

The body is very good at dealing with these issues. So if your body is telling you not to move your neck.. then DON'T MOVE YOUR NECK. Bed rest on a bed with a thin pillow folded such that it supports the back of your neck will reduce the strain on the muscles there.

To control the pain, Over the Counter Pain medications Ibuprofen and Dolo are very good to control pain. I would suggest a combination of the two.

Something like 400mg of Ibuprofen three times a day along with Dolo 650mg, 3 times a day. The combination works very well in most cases.

If a day or two of rest and medication does NOT relieve the pain then you will need to take some muscle relaxants. There are many to be taken but they are ALL prescription medications.. so you will need to be face to face with your doctor to discuss those options.

So first.. try the rest, the neck pillow along with the Brufen and the Dolo for 2 or maybe even 3 days would be an ideal first step. if they do not work, then we can discuss your next step.

I look forward to your thoughts,

Vinay
