What Causes Sudden Allergies To Papaya/walnut While On Darifenacin And Nitrofurantoin?

Hope your are doing well.
This is regarding my wife who has over reactive bladder due to spinal cord injury since 2008. We visited you in Feb 2014 when you suggested Darifinacin 15 mg with Nitrofurantoin 50mg daily.
Few days back she had a skin reaction to Papaya or Wallnut and we had to rush to hospital. Now she's fine but I have few questions for you:
She never had such allergy. Do you think it's something to do with long term usage of medication, weak immunity etc ?
The treating doctor also asked why she's on daily anti-biotic for 2 years as usually it's not prescribed for so long. Since there is not a single instance of UTI since last 2 years do you think we can stop the Nitrofurantoin now (currently she takes it on alternate days)?
Another concern is she's not getting a balanced diet always and enough sun exposure which might have impacted her health. I doubt this because I was diagnosed with vitamin deficiency sometime back, after complaining rashes and joint pain. I have been on a multivitamin and a vitamin D supplement since and feel much better now. She has similar symptoms which I had (rashes, joint pain etc.). Could you please recommend a good multivitamin which would not interfere with her current medication ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Please let her continue medicines as earlier
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am glad your wife has had no major urine infection in the past two years. Both Darifenacin and Nitrofurantoin are extremely safe medicines even when given over prolonged periods, and at the dosage of Niftas that she is on, she is unlikely to have any skin trouble. This is not an issue which non-urologists or non-nephrologists would be familiar with. So let them only take care of the skin reaction, and I suggest you just continue with medicines as earlier.
I hope she has had a recent ultrasound of kidneys and bladder, and serum creatinine level examined. If not, pls do so soon.
I usually recommend Cap. Becozinc once daily or A to Z Gold once daily if vitamin supplements are requested.
