Brief Answer:
Yes, Could be ligament sprain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
Sudden onset back pain is generally a sprain of ligaments - inter spinous(back) or sacroiliac joints. Muscle cramps are usually due to spasm of muscles caused by one of above factors.
In acute condition please give her 1. Complete Bed rest 2. Pain killers 3. Muscle relaxants 4. Local Heat application 5. Local analgesic cream 6.Lumbar support.
The acute pain may remain for few days. If it does not improve in 3-4 days then it will be better that you take her to ER.
All the best for early recovery.
