Hello.
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern for your mother. An unexplained significant lost of weight in a short period of time always is suspicious of malignancy.
In this case a series of examinations are necessary to exclude a possible malignant tumor.Detailed physical examination ,blood tests, thyroid function tests, chest x-rays, abdomen CT , upper endoscopy ,colonoscopy ,gynecological examination, mamography etc.
If all these examinations are normal ,I would recommend a HIV test too just to be sure to exclude all possible pathological causes for weight loss.
Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any question.
Kind regards,

Are any of those also associated with the loss of her teeth?
Brief Answer:
detailed below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
A significant and rapid weight loss associated with very low levels of calcium and Vit D can contribute to the loss of the teeth.Uncontrolled diabetes is also a cause for weight loss and teeth problems.
It is difficult to say it for sure ,what might have caused this but a detailed examination is necessary.
Take care.
