What Causes Sudden Numbness In Both The Hands, Lightheadedness And Rapid Heartbeat?
Question: Hi there,
Yesterday while I was seated and getting my hair done I experienced light headedness, rapid heartbeat and numbness in both hands which then moved to both feet. I'd never experienced this before. Was this a panic attack? Also, I'm 5'2", 106 lbs, don't smoke and have no health issues other than allergies. I eat fairly well and walk as exercise.

Brief Answer:
Continue medication
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. This may be due to extreme neck extension while sitting and getting hair done.
No need to get any investigation at present if no permanent deficit present.
Take multi vitamin with vitamin B 12, avoid neck extreme motions.
Visit a neurologist if symptoms recurrent for clinical examination.
hope you found the answer helpful.

Hello and thank you for your response. I forgot to mention in my initial inquiry that
I'd only just arrived at the salon so I'm not sure it was due to extreme neck tension as I'd only been sitting for about 5 min.
Prior to my visit I'd been meditating daily, sometimes twice a day for about 2 weeks.
I've also read that meditating causes blood pressure to drop and was wondering if what I experienced was associated with having low blood pressure? Please advise.
Thank you again,
Marjori

Brief Answer:
Possibility of vagal compression to be considered
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Another possibility of lightheadedness may be vagal stimulation at neck due to compression with cloth around the neck.
Prolonged sitting may not cause sudden fall in blood pressure and presyncopal attack usually occurs during change of posture.
Get blood pressure measurement and have good intake of Fluids.
