Question: When i checked my bgs in 2010 it was notmal. But in 2012, my hga1c went to 13. I gained about 50lbs during this time frame. I read that diabetes takes years to develop. But why it happened so quickly? Or my test in 2010 was wrong?

Brief Answer:
Diabetes progression can vary based on the type of diabetes

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern.
Yes diabetes may take years to develop. However, based on the cause of diabetes ( type 1 vs Type 2 vs MODY and other causes), this time frame can vary. You need to find out the cause of diabetes at this young age. What is your height and weight ? Any family history of diabetes? Any other investigations done ( antibodies) ?

HbA1c can vary based on your haemoglobin status, certan medicines etc. So you need to consider your Fasting blood glucose reading along with your Hba1c . What was your Fasting sugars in 2010 and what is it now?
