Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have
sudden rise of your Serum PSA from 1.6 to 12.3 over a period of 6 weeks which otherwis was stable over last few years.
Serum PSA is a basic tool in screening for cancer of the prostate .It may get raised in acute infection of prostate and BPH.However one has to rule out cancer of prostate by doing ultrasound guided multi-core biopsy of prostate .
Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and Biopsy of the prostate to be rest assured about presence cancer of Prostate.
Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,
I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

I have an appointment scheduled with the Urologist for DRE and know he will want to do biopsy to rule out Cancer of Prostate.
The question is the following; In your experience have you seen a rise of 1.6 to 12.3 over one year due to BPH?
Yes it does bets increased.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.
Serum PSA do increases in BPH however it is normal routine protocol to rule out cancer of prostate by doing Prostate biopsy.
Other option which I normally follow is to prescribe antibiotics and alpha adrenargic receptor blockers like Tomsulosin and Dutasteride for 3 weeks and repeat serum PSA after three weeks. You may want to discuss about this option when you visit the doctor.
Thanks and Regards.
