What Causes Sudden Sharp Pain In Trachea And Pain While Taking Deep Breaths?
Last night I returned from 10 days in Vanuatu. The air was very hot and humid. I did a lot of snorkelling.
Today in Sydney I have been busy talking, washing & sitting etc. Around 7pm tonight, when the air became cooler with some rain, I started to get a sharp pain in my trachea. It hurts when I breath deeply, when I move, and when I breath to speak.
Is it a virus?
What should I do to make it get better?
Best wishes

seems to be external trauma.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having painful tachea. I would like to you ask few more details.
Is there any cough or productive sputum ?
Is your tracheal pain associated with wheeze or breathlessness ?
Based on your clinical details, it appears to be mild external trauma. Tracheitis or viral infection or voice box injury causes cough, hoarseness of voice, copious secretions and breathlessness.
I suggest you to follow the measures, to overcome your pain.
1. steam inhalation
2. take pain killers like brufen 400mg (over the counter) twice daily.
3. absolute voice rest.
4. Prophylactic anti allergic medication like cetrizine 10mg daily one tab at bed time for couple of days.
In persistence of symptoms, needs laryngoscopy to rule out other causes.
Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
