Question: My three year old grand niece just dies yesterday after a progressively swelling abdomen and progressive atrophy of her arms and legs. What is the differential diagnosis? Celiac disease was ruled out earlier.

From what history you provided my differentials are 1)RENAL TUBULAR ACIDOSIS ( RTA )..in which some electrolytes and bicarbonate are lost in urine 2)PROTEIN LOSING ENTEROPATHY.. leading to hypoproteinemia and as cites (abdominal distention) 3)LIVER CIRROSIS.. leading to hypoproteinemia ...leading to ascites( progressive abdominal distention) 4) CHRONIC INFECTION like tuberculosis, HIV,hepatitis B Happy to help you, Regards,
